Orientation Whoosh Whoosh Whoosh!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR PEOPLE!We're all in a super uber high mood after Orientation! ~WheeOrientation '07
An Emotional Rollercoaster
Orientation '07 has ended for the Sec 1s, but not for all of us...
Orientation is probably my pet event, as Wei Leong would have put it in my terms,
"My fling with council started with Orientation '05 onto Orientation '07."
And it's still going on by the way. The OTs for both Orientations went through lots of shit together, from the seniors, grandseniors blah blah blah. You really got to experience it for yourself. Most people probably won't understand what Orientation really is about, at least those not in Hwa Chong or the council for that matter.

Orientation really is a special feeling altogther, different from SLC, or whatever other big events in the school. I remember JiJou saying that Orientation is the only HSC event truly organized by the students for the students. You can compare Invest and all that in, but really, other schools don't really come and see all the shit your Orientation have in it. Haha. I'm spamming quotes by the seniors. Just talking about Orientation '07, I think we were really quite slack at the start, and starting getting together towards the end. It was very very simple communication, because each of us understood what was going on, and that should be the way for all events.
We really didn't have to worry about the programme itself, Cai Yong took care of that part. Desmond just had to do his job as the main man of Orientation, and me, for the 3rd day also. It was really really fulfilling to have the Sec 1s come up and talk to you on their own and all that.
Talking about Orientation being a blend of emotions, it really started to go off the scales towards the 3rd day. For the 1st 2 days, it was worry worry worry, then on the 3rd day it was really feeling the product of your Sec 1s. And at the end till now, it was really reminsicing about what could have been done more and muttering cheers to yourself. The OT really went crazy on the last day... Desmond give me a D! XD
The whole Orientation journey really was a rollercoaster, the climax coming towards the end, but I'll never forget anything about it, going to Berto's House, the screwed OT shirt, horny SLC proposals blah blah blah. The only regret was that I probably was never an Orientation buddy. I'd loved to be one, just influence 30 Sec 1s by myself. And being an AOS, it's super special to shout "HWACHONG" and have like 450 people reply "OI" to you. Standing in the halls of KKH, and have all the Sec 1s and buddies lined up at the galleries, watching you, is something I'll never forget. Orientation's all about confidence, and as much people try to get you down, you just get back up and face those 450 Sec 1s as emcee, AOS or whatever. You could see the confidence in us grow towards the third day. On the 2nd day, I had to get Bert and Cai to do Hwa Chong 'Oi' with me, but on the 3rd, it was just either me or Des doing it. It was different, very much different.
And at the end of everything, it was heartwarming to see both Orientation OTs sit down together for dinner at council dinner and talk alot of crap. Being in both OTs made it all the more special. (I wasn't talking about the bonding XD) It's what we term the Orientation Family. And as on Jia Wei's msn nick, 'Orientation. Live in the hearts of many'. It certainly will in mine.
Being in the Orientation Family is really special, and the two closest I've been to is my Logs I/C and my OS. Wenbo and Des. Wenbo really influenced my council life alot alot. And I have alot to thank him for that. I believe I didn't let him down this year, with all the faith he has put in me as Orientation AOS. As for Desmond, he's much more mature than me. And had to put up with seeing me in his face for the past 3 months and constant bugging to read his SMSes. But I think we really grew to know each other, probably more than Alfred and Davin had. Dynamic Duo as Nicholas would put it. It probably was the maximum we could really reach.
I have tons of people to thank for Orientation, so lets start...
To Alfred, for all that advice and niao-ing our proposals.
To Davin, for the questions on MSN.
To Jia Wei, for all those super uber encouraging SMS.
To Wen Bo, for all that printing, the help given and the influence on us all.
To Jia Chen, for the Ops Room.
To Wei Leong, for all the quotes from the books
To Jason, for the sarcasm.
To Jasper, for the DNP help.
To all the seniors actually, for the late nights and scolding with us.
To Desmond, for all the shit we went through and putting up with me.
To Remus, for all the funny eGroups messages (Bring Badminton Racket!).
To Cai Yong, for having not let us worry about the programmes.
To Yu Quan, for the card tricks (you're not slacking dude).
To Benjamin, for the Logs Room job, and all the useless walkie-talkie messages (there's a girl on the walkie-talkie!)
To Zhi Hao, for spamming Logs stuff last minute.
To Winston, for MIA-ing the first part of the SOO journey.
To Xiao Bin, for really missing out on alot by falling sick.
To Bertrand, for the roasted chicken and talisman.
To Wei Jing, for all the work on the survival guide and have Bert and Yuan Ming claim credit.
To Yuan Ming, for being a 'zhai' Sec 1 (like me last year) during Orientation, with the walkie-talkie.
Next year, we're all going to be seniors to the new OT, and its probably going to be an all new challenge to it. Well, I've devoted all my December Holidays to Orientation. What's another one? One or two of the Sec 1s in the OT this year are probably going to be like me, and I wonder what am I going to tell them, to have that special affinity with Orientation? As though Orientation was a friend to you. And towards the end of every year, come back and see the fruits of your labour. Haha. As Orientation '07 comes to a close, Orientation '08 beckons as seniors......
Signing off one last time as...
Orientation AOS
